What Makes a Great Photo

Resolution matters.

The more pixels, the better your finished piece will look. Photos taken on smartphones in the last few years typically work great. If your image looks blurry or pixelated when you zoom in on your phone, it'll look the same on your keepsake.

Good lighting wins.

Photos with clear, even lighting translate beautifully. Natural light or well-lit indoor shots work best. Avoid images that are too dark, overly shadowy, or washed out by harsh flash.

Faces should be clear.

If people are the focus, make sure faces aren't blurry, obscured, or too small in the frame. The details that make your photo special are the details we want to capture.

What to Keep in Mind

High contrast helps. Images with clear distinction between light and dark areas tend to produce the most striking results, especially for black & white lithophanes and laser engravings.

Busy backgrounds can distract.

Simple backgrounds let your subject shine. If your photo has a cluttered background, cropping tighter on your subject often improves the final piece.
Different formats suit different photos. A dramatic black & white portrait might look stunning as a lithophane, while a colorful family beach photo could be perfect for a full-color print. Not sure which format fits your image? I'll help you figure it out during proofing.

What We Can't Use

No copyrighted characters or logos.

I only work with photos you own the rights to—your family, your pets, your memories. No Disney characters, sports logos, celebrity photos, or anything you pulled from the internet. This keeps things simple and legal for both of us.

No low-resolution images.

If your photo is smaller than 1000 pixels on the shortest side, the results won't look great. Screenshots, images saved from social media, or heavily cropped photos often fall into this category.

Not Sure If Your Photo Will Work?

Don't worry—I review every image before production and send you a proof showing exactly how it will look. If there's an issue with resolution, lighting, or composition, I'll let you know and we can figure out the best path forward together.
